Kia ora koutouI have been notified by the Post Primary Teachers’ Association (PPTA – the secondary teachers union) of upcoming strike action by members of their union.

This action is being taken because the union has been unable to reach agreement with the Ministry of Education over the new collective employment agreement that is being negotiated. As the vast majority of teachers at the Southern Health School belong to PPTA  this action will likely impact your child if they are in years 7 – 13.

This week the strike action involves partial strikes, with different year groups impacted each day. If your child is scheduled to be taught on the day their year level is impacted, their teacher will not be available to teach them if they are a PPTA member.

Your child’s teacher will contact you to confirm whether or not they will be available to teach your child.

The planned action for this week is as follows:

Tuesday 14 October – a partial strike involving Year levels 7 and 9

Wednesday 15 October – a partial strike involving Year levels 8 and 10

Thursday 16 October – a partial strike involving Year levels 11 and 12

Tuesday 17 October – a partial strike involving Year 13.

Further action is also proposed and involves a full strike on Thursday 23 October (full day) and on Wednesday 5 November (from 1.15pm – 3.15pm). You will receive further information about this action closer to the time.
