How the CAAs Work

• The assessments are digital-first and completed online.

• There are three separate assessments: one each for Reading, Writing, and Numeracy.

• Each assessment is designed to take a minimum of 60 minutes, but students are allowed to take as much time as they need, provided it is completed in one sitting.

• There are two national assessment windows each year. Schools choose when to run the assessments within each window.

Preparing for the CAAs

To support success in these assessments, students should:

• Engage with the preparation materials provided in class.

• Talk with their teachers if they are unsure about any part of the process.

These assessments are a key part of a student’s NCEA journey. With support and preparation, students can approach them with confidence.
