We were fortunate to have Irirangi Illy Akurangi visit our Timaru, South Canterbury classroom to teach our ākonga the beautiful art of harakeke weaving.
Whiria te taura here tāngata – bind together the strands of humanity
Irirangi Illy Akurangi is incredibly talented in flax weaving, kapa haka, and traditional Māori weaponry. She worked with our ākonga to teach them how to prepare flax for weaving and guided them in creating two different styles of woven flowers. Illy then demonstrated how these flowers can be arranged into beautiful bouquets.
Check out our stunning photos!
