Creativity has been flowing across SHS classrooms this week as students celebrate the end of the term with unique art and Matariki activities.
The SHS class, based at the Rāpoi day programme, had the pleasure of visiting the Dunedin Public Art Gallery (DPAG) recently. Entering before the official opening times at the rear of the building, the class experienced a very quiet gallery! A variety of art works were explored, including Robin White’s ‘Harbour Cone’ painting as a backdrop to the Māori legend behind this location (Hereweka). Following this, the class created some beautiful art work using a variety of mediums, and with much aroha going into the pieces! Special thanks to Libbi Caskey, the DPAG Art Educator.

Alongside our Matariki celebrations, Elroi (Nelson) designed a brilliant decorative plate. By baking it in the oven after using paint pens, the vibrant pattern became a permanent keepsake.
