Te Kura Whaiora ki Te Tonga/Southern Health School is seeking a compassionate, adaptable, and skilled kaiako/teacher to join our team in Ashburton.

We are a state special school providing education for ākonga (Years 1–13) who are unable to attend their regular school due to health needs. We work alongside whānau, schools, and health professionals to ensure learning continuity and support successful transitions back to school.

About the role

This is a permanent part-time position (0.4 FTTE). The successful applicant will:

  • plan and deliver individualised learning programmes
  • support ākonga wellbeing and engagement
  • work across a range of settings (home, community, health facilities)
  • collaborate with whānau, schools, and multidisciplinary teams
  • maintain clear reporting and student records.

What we are looking for

We are seeking a kaiako who:

  • demonstrates learner-centred, inclusive practice
  • has strong curriculum, assessment, and relationship skills
  • can respond to diverse health, wellbeing, and engagement needs
  • works effectively in a flexible, multi-site environment
  • builds trusting, mana-enhancing relationships with ākonga and whānau.

Employment conditions

Position covered by the Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement (STCA). Salary will be based on qualifications and experience.

Requirements

  • Current full NZ teacher registration
  • Eligibility to teach in Aotearoa New Zealand
  • Current full NZ driver licence (travel required)
  • Police vetting clearance
