Te Kura Whaiora ki Te Tonga/Southern Health School is seeking a compassionate, adaptable, and skilled kaiako/teacher to join our dedicated team based in Christchurch for Term 3.
About us
Southern Health school supports ākonga to seek health and wellbeing through continuous education. We work alongside whānau, primary schools, secondary schools, and medical professionals to ensure continuity of learning during periods of significant illness, facilitating successful transitions back to regular schooling.
About the role
This role contributes to the Flexible Learning Access Project, supporting ākonga with complex health needs who attend learning programmes on variable days and times.
We are seeking a passionate and adaptable Kaiako to join our Dunedin Team. This fixed-term part-time (0.5 FTTE) position supports ākonga in Years 1–13 whose health needs prevent them from attending their regular school.Start date to be negotiated, prefer ASAP until 8 December 2026.
You will deliver personalised, flexible learning programmes across a range of settings including homes, community spaces, and health facilities. This is a highly rewarding role where education, wellbeing, and transition back to school are central to success.
This role requires regular travel within the Dunedin catchment and to other approved locations, including homes, community settings, and health facilities.

Excellent relationship and communication skills

Confidence supporting students with complex wellbeing or health needs

Strong professional judgement and organisational skills
Experience teaching students with health or complex wellbeing needs and or multi-agency environments is an advantage.
